Brunch in Phuket has become a genuine thing. Not the resort buffet kind where you're surrounded by people in swimming costumes at 09:30, but real, considered, good-coffee-and-proper-eggs brunch at proper cafés. The scene has grown considerably in the last few years, particularly in Bang Tao, Rawai and Kamala — and if you know where to go, a Phuket weekend brunch can be genuinely excellent.

This guide covers the best brunch areas, what's worth the money, what's overpriced, and the honest differences between areas. As with most things in Phuket, where you live shapes where you'll end up going — so this is broken down by zone.

Bang Tao and Cherng Talay: Phuket's Brunch Capital

If you live in the north-west of Phuket — Bang Tao, Laguna, Layan, Surin — your weekend brunch will almost certainly be in or around Cherng Talay. The strip of restaurants and cafés along the Cherng Talay road and around Boat Avenue in Bang Tao is the densest concentration of quality brunch options on the island.

What to Expect in Bang Tao

Bang Tao brunch is broadly upscale, family-friendly and consistent. You're looking at strong coffee, quality eggs dishes (benedicts, shakshuka, florentines), good sourdough, avocado toast and reliable international menus. The clientele is a mix of expat families, digital nomads and affluent tourists. Prices reflect this: 300–500 THB per person for a full brunch, often more if you add cocktails.

The Porto de Phuket area has a cluster of brunch spots with outdoor seating and a generally relaxed atmosphere. Boat Avenue tends towards slightly more curated, trendy spots — you'll see good Instagram setups and higher prices to match. The real find in this area is the strip slightly north in Cherng Talay, which has less traffic, newer spots and marginally better value.

Insider tip: Book ahead on Saturday and Sunday mornings in Bang Tao — specifically around 10:00–11:30. Walk-in between 09:00 and 09:30 (before the main crowd) and you'll be fine without a reservation. After 10:00 on a dry-season weekend, you'll be waiting.

Bottomless Brunch in Bang Tao

Several spots in Bang Tao now offer weekend bottomless brunch packages — free-flowing prosecco, Aperol spritz or cocktails with a set food menu. These run 90–120 minutes and cost 800–1,500 THB per person depending on the drinks included. They're popular with the Bang Tao expat community, particularly among the European crowd on a Sunday. Check current menus as they rotate seasonally.

Rawai and Nai Harn: Relaxed and Good Value

Rawai's brunch scene is less polished than Bang Tao's but often more interesting. There's a laid-back, local atmosphere — fewer tourists, more long-term expats, less emphasis on the Instagram-perfect setup. The prices are slightly lower than Bang Tao, and the overall vibe is easier and more relaxed.

The Rawai Brunch Strip

The café strip along the Rawai beach road and around the Viset Road / Chalong intersection has a good mix of Western-style cafés, juice bars and hybrid spots that do strong coffee and decent food. The quality has improved noticeably — you can now reliably get a proper eggs benedict on good bread with a well-made coffee for 250–350 THB.

The Sunday Nai Harn market (starting around 08:00 near the lake) is Phuket's best combined market and café experience. There are proper coffee stalls, fresh smoothies, local Thai breakfast options and Western food all within walking distance of each other. It's a genuinely pleasant way to spend a Sunday morning — busy but with good energy.

Kamala and Surin: The Underrated Pick

Kamala gets overlooked in most Phuket food guides, which is part of why it's worth highlighting here. The area has a genuine, unhurried café culture — a mix of long-term expats, boutique hotel guests and Thai families. A couple of spots in Kamala village do excellent brunch at prices well below Bang Tao, with a much quieter atmosphere.

Surin is similar — a few good café options on the beach road that open early and cater to a discerning crowd. Less variety than Bang Tao but good quality when you find the right spot. Both areas are worth exploring on a weekday when you want a brunch spot with actual breathing room.

Phuket Town: The Non-Traditional Brunch Option

Phuket Town's old quarter is not a brunch destination in the Western sense — but if you reframe brunch as "a late morning meal that lasts a couple of hours and involves good food and coffee," then it qualifies. The specialty coffee scene in the old town is legitimate, and the combination of heritage building ambience, good single-origin coffee and the ability to walk between dim sum shops, juice bars and cafés makes for a genuinely excellent late-morning experience.

For around 200–300 THB you can have a full morning: pa tong ko and soy milk at a street stall (30 THB), a walk around the old quarter, then a proper flat white at a specialty coffee shop (100 THB), followed by laksa or Hokkien mee at a local restaurant (60–80 THB). Different from a Bang Tao brunch — better in many ways.

Brunch with Kids in Phuket

Phuket is generally family-friendly for brunch, particularly in Bang Tao. Most cafés in the Boat Avenue and Porto de Phuket area have space, high chairs and simple kids' menus. Rawai is similarly accommodating. The Nai Harn Sunday market is a good family morning out — there's room to walk around and kids are well catered for.

Avoid peak times (10:00–12:00 on weekends) with very young children if you can — the wait times at popular spots can be frustrating. Going at 08:30–09:00 or after 13:00 makes the experience significantly more relaxed. See our Bang Tao area guide for family-specific recommendations in that zone, or our Rawai and Nai Harn guide for the south.

What Makes a Good Phuket Brunch Spot

After years of brunching across the island, here are the honest markers of a genuinely good Phuket brunch spot versus a tourist trap dressed up nicely:

  • Coffee quality: Can they make a proper flat white or cortado? Bad coffee is a red flag for everything else.
  • Bread source: Is the sourdough or toast made in-house or from a serious bakery? Supermarket bread is a giveaway.
  • Eggs: Are they fresh? Runny yolks on poached eggs are achievable — if they're always solid, the kitchen is overcooking everything.
  • Menu turnover: Does the menu change seasonally or stay static for years? Rotating menus usually indicate a kitchen that cares.
  • The crowd: If it's mostly expats and long-termers, that's usually a good sign. If it's purely tourists with large cameras and no locals, treat with caution.

Frequently Asked Questions: Brunch in Phuket

Where is the best brunch in Phuket?
The best brunch options are concentrated in Bang Tao (Boat Avenue, Porto de Phuket, Cherng Talay strip) and Rawai/Nai Harn. Bang Tao offers the most consistent, international-quality spots. Rawai is better for a relaxed, lower-key atmosphere at slightly lower prices. Kamala has a few underrated options worth discovering.
How much does brunch cost in Phuket?
A full brunch with eggs, toast and coffee at a good café costs 300–500 THB per person. Bottomless brunch packages (weekend only at select venues) cost 800–1,500 THB. You can eat a very good brunch for 200–280 THB in Rawai or Kamala if you stick to simpler options.
Do restaurants in Phuket do bottomless brunch?
Yes — several spots in Bang Tao and a few in Rawai offer bottomless brunch on weekends. These typically include unlimited prosecco, Aperol spritz or cocktails with a set food menu for 90–120 minutes at 800–1,500 THB. Check current menus as packages change seasonally.
Is brunch available in the rainy season in Phuket?
Yes — most good brunch spots have covered or air-conditioned seating, so rain doesn't disrupt plans. The rainy season (May to October) actually means smaller crowds and sometimes better service. Some open-air options are less enjoyable during heavy rain, but indoor spots are unaffected.
Are there vegan brunch options in Phuket?
Yes — most expat-oriented brunch cafés in Bang Tao, Rawai and Kamala have vegan options: smoothie bowls, avocado toast, chia puddings and plant-based egg dishes. Phuket Town's vegetarian restaurants offer Thai-style vegan morning food for a fraction of the price.

Our Honest Brunch Verdict for Phuket

Phuket's brunch scene is genuinely good now — not just "good for Southeast Asia" but legitimately competitive with any international city. The best spots in Bang Tao and Rawai serve food and coffee that would cost twice as much in London or Sydney. The challenge is sorting the real quality from the Instagram aesthetic. Use the markers above, visit on a weekday first if you can, and don't be seduced by beautiful décor if the coffee is mediocre.
