✈️ Phuket Airport (HKT) Quick Facts
Which Budget Airlines Fly from Phuket?
Phuket International Airport (HKT) is well-served by budget carriers, especially for domestic Thai routes. As a Phuket expat, you'll become very familiar with AirAsia — it dominates the budget market and has the most routes.
AirAsia (Domestic & International)
AirAsia is the most reliable budget option from Phuket. They offer daily flights to Bangkok (Don Mueang), Chiang Mai, Kuala Lumpur, Singapore, and seasonal routes to various ASEAN destinations. Their BIG loyalty programme accumulates points usefully for Phuket-Bangkok regulars.
Bangkok price range: ฿600–1,800 one-way depending on booking lead time. Best prices on monthly BIG sales (first Monday of month typically).
Nok Air
Nok Air focuses on domestic routes and is reliable for Bangkok and Chiang Mai. Pricing is similar to AirAsia, occasionally marginally cheaper on Bangkok routes. Nok Air flies to Suvarnabhumi (BKK) as well as Don Mueang (DMK), which is convenient if you're connecting internationally.
Bangkok price range: ฿700–1,600 one-way. Less flexible baggage policy than AirAsia.
Thai Smile
Thai Smile (operated by Thai Airways) is positioned between budget and full-service. Fares are slightly higher than AirAsia but you get better seat pitch, a meal included on some routes, and the ability to earn Royal Orchid Plus miles. Good for business-class upgrades when the premium cabin fare isn't much more.
Bangkok price range: ฿1,200–2,800 one-way. Worth comparing to AirAsia — often similar price but with meal included.
Scoot (Singapore) & Other International Budget
For international budget travel, Scoot (Singapore), Batik Air Malaysia, and AirAsia International cover ASEAN and some longer-haul routes. Singapore is a 1.5-hour flight, making it a popular transit hub for Phuket expats travelling to Europe or Australia.

How Phuket Expats Book Cheap Flights
Book 3–6 weeks ahead for domestic. AirAsia and Nok Air price Bangkok flights from ฿600–800 when booked 3–6 weeks out on non-peak dates. Same-week booking will often be ฿2,000–3,000.
AirAsia BIG Sales. AirAsia holds regular "BIG Sales" offering base fares from ฿0–390 + taxes. These typically appear in the first week of each month for travel several months away. Subscribe to AirAsia sale alerts and check on the first Monday of each month.
Travel mid-week. Tuesday and Wednesday flights from Phuket to Bangkok are consistently cheaper than Friday–Sunday. For Phuket expats making Bangkok work trips, fly out Tuesday, return Thursday for best fares.
Compare both Bangkok airports. Don Mueang (DMK) serves budget airlines; Suvarnabhumi (BKK) serves full-service and Thai Smile. DMK is slightly further from Bangkok central but Grab prices are similar. For international connections, check which Bangkok airport your onward flight uses before booking.
