Laundromats & Self-Service Laundry in Phuket: Area-by-Area Guide

From 24-hour coin laundromats in Kata to pickup-and-deliver services in Bang Tao — here's everything you need to know about laundry in the tropics.

Laundry in Phuket has a rhythm of its own. In wet season, you can't line-dry anything — clothes left damp for more than a few hours develop that distinctive tropical mildew smell that no amount of Downy removes. In dry season, a T-shirt hung at 9am can be dry by 11am. Knowing which tools to use when makes all the difference.

Whether you're in a condo without a washing machine, a villa with a machine but no dryer, or just doing a holiday laundry run, Phuket has a full range of laundry options. Here's where to find them.

What Laundry Options Exist in Phuket?

Self-Service Coin or Card Laundromats

The most common type in Phuket — rows of front-loading washing machines and dryers, operated by coins (5–10 THB coins) or occasionally pre-loaded cards. Wash cycles typically run 30–40 minutes and cost 30–50 THB depending on machine size. Dryers run 20–30 THB for 30–40 minutes. Many are open 24 hours, staffed during daytime and automated overnight.

Popular chains with multiple Phuket locations include Wash & Go and Mr Wash — both have a good presence in Patong, Kata/Karon, Rawai, and Phuket Town. In Bang Tao and Surin, standalone laundromats are thinner on the ground (most villa residents have in-villa machines) but a few operate near the main shopping strips.

Drop-Off Laundry Services

Drop your laundry, come back in a few hours (or next day) and collect it washed, dried, and folded. This is the default service used by most short-term expats and long-term renters without washing machines. Cost is 40–70 THB per kilogram with a typical minimum of 2–3 kg. An average week's laundry for one person weighs 3–5 kg, so expect to pay 150–350 THB per visit.

Almost every area of Phuket with a residential population has drop-off laundry shops — often combined with the self-service laundromat or as a standalone shopfront. In Rawai there's a cluster along Sai Yuan Road and Wiset Road. In Kata/Karon they're abundant near the beach roads. Phuket Town has dozens.

Pickup and Delivery Laundry

Several laundry services in Bang Tao, Laguna, Kamala, and Patong offer pickup from your villa or condo, and delivery back — same day or next day. Cost runs 60–100 THB/kg, usually with a 3 kg minimum. Particularly useful if you're in a managed estate where going out requires planning. Book via LINE or WhatsApp; most of these are small local operators rather than chains.

Dry Cleaning

Dry cleaning is available in Phuket, mostly through shops in Phuket Town and at shopping centres like Central Festival and Jungceylon (Patong). Expect to pay 200–500 THB per suit jacket, 150–350 THB for trousers, and 500–1,200 THB for formal dresses. Turnaround is typically 24–48 hours. Not every area has local dry cleaners — Chalong and the south tend to rely on Phuket Town options.

Where to Find Laundromats in Each Part of Phuket

Kata & Karon

One of the best-served areas for self-service laundromats — multiple options on Kata Road and Karon Road, many open until midnight or later. Drop-off services are also plentiful. Good choice for tourists doing a mid-holiday laundry run as well as long-stay residents.

Rawai & Nai Harn

Sai Yuan Road and Wiset Road in Rawai have clusters of laundry services. Nai Harn village near the beach has a few small shops. This area has a large permanent expat population and laundry services have developed accordingly. Check our Rawai & Nai Harn area guide for the full picture on local services.

Patong

Laundromats are everywhere in Patong given the tourist density — Bangla Road side streets, Rat-U-Thit Road, and the residential areas behind the beach strip all have options. In high season (December–February) popular spots get busy; go before 8am or after 8pm to avoid waiting for machines.

Phuket Town

The old town and Talat Yai neighbourhoods have numerous drop-off laundry shops serving the large local community. Prices here are at the lower end of the island scale — 40–50 THB/kg for wash and fold. Dry cleaning options are also strongest in Phuket Town.

Bang Tao, Laguna & Cherng Talay

Fewer self-service options in this high-end corridor, since most villas come with washing machines. However, several laundry services operate near the Cherng Talay village strip and on Route 402. Pickup and delivery is the most popular format here. See the Bang Tao & Laguna area guide for local services.

Chalong

Several laundry shops operate near the Big C South and along Chao Fa East Road. This serves a large permanent resident population and is generally well-priced. Good option for villa residents in Chalong who need a duvet or large items washed.

Tropical Laundry Tips for Phuket Life

Dealing with Mildew Smell

The number one laundry complaint among new Phuket expats. If clothes come out of the wash smelling musty, it usually means the machine drum is contaminated or the clothes sat wet too long. Add 250ml of white vinegar to the fabric softener compartment and re-run a hot cycle. For the drum itself, run an empty hot cycle with a washing machine cleaner tablet (Big C and Lotus's carry them).

Choosing the Right Washing Machine (If You Own One)

In Phuket's humidity, front-loading machines are preferred over top-loaders — they spin faster (extracting more water) and are generally more mould-resistant. Always leave the door open between uses to prevent drum mould. Check your machine's rubber door seal monthly for black mould and clean with an anti-mould spray.

What Not to Put in a Tropical Dryer

Delicate fabrics, anything with rubber or elastic components, and silk should never go into a hot commercial dryer. Hang these items on a clothes horse under air-conditioning for a few hours — they'll dry perfectly. Keep the room cool and dehumidified with the A/C on a dry mode.

Line Drying in Phuket

In dry season (November–April), line drying in direct sun is fast and effective — UV also kills bacteria. Keep clothes off the line after rain (obvious) and watch for the brief afternoon showers that can sneak up in dry season too. In wet season, line drying only works under a covered area with good air flow. A covered porch or open-sided sala is perfect.
