Phuket has six genuinely world-class golf courses and a thriving expat golf society scene. Green fees are a fraction of what you'd pay in Europe or Australia, caddies are included at most venues, and you can play 18 holes before breakfast and still be on the beach by noon. Here's the honest rundown of every course — and what it's really like to be a golfing expat on the island.
| Course | Location | Par | Peak Green Fee | Twilight Rate | Verdict |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Red Mountain Golf Club | Kathu | 72 | ฿3,500–4,500 | ฿2,200–2,800 | Best overall — dramatic terrain, excellent conditions |

Built on a former tin mine, Red Mountain has the most dramatic scenery on the island. The undulating terrain means every hole is different and demanding. Conditions are well-maintained year-round. Most expat golf societies rotate through here regularly. Twilight rates after 1pm offer the best value.
The Canyon Course has the pedigree — it hosted the Johnnie Walker Classic and Tiger Woods has played here. Immaculate conditions, great facilities. The Lakes Course is often more available and cheaper. Membership is expensive but includes full clubhouse access. Popular with Bang Tao/Laguna expats.
Situated in the Laguna complex, this is the default course for Bang Tao and Surin expats. The members' golf society has a regular weekly competition. Great facilities, attentive staff. The course layout is less dramatic than Red Mountain but very playable. Good for early-morning rounds before the beach.
Loch Palm is the locals' course — lower green fees, no tourist rush, and a relaxed atmosphere. The Scottish-themed design (incongruous but charming) has interesting water features. Popular with expat societies doing weekday rounds at twilight rates. Reliable course conditions despite the lower price point.
Most Phuket courses offer twilight rates after 1–2pm that are 20–40% cheaper. You'll typically complete 18 holes before dark (sunset around 6:15–6:45pm depending on season). For resident golfers this is the best value — especially at Red Mountain and Laguna.
The social side of Phuket golf is excellent. Multiple societies run weekly competitions at rotating venues, with post-round drinks and a proper prizes structure. Most use a Stableford format.

Contrary to what some guides suggest, you can play golf in Phuket during the rainy season (May–October). The key is timing: morning rounds (tee off by 7am) are almost always playable as storms typically arrive in the afternoon. July–September sees the most disruption. Course conditions in the wet season can be soft and some courses do close temporarily after heavy rain.
