Sunday morning. The temperature is already 28°C at 9am. You're in no rush. Someone in your WhatsApp group has just posted a photo of poached eggs on sourdough surrounded by tropical fruit at a sunlit café table. This, in essence, is the Phuket brunch experience — and it's got a lot better over the past few years.

Phuket's café and brunch culture has quietly grown into something genuinely impressive. Between the expat population across Bang Tao, Rawai, Kamala, and Phuket Town, there's now real demand for quality coffee, eggs done right, and ingredients that aren't just white toast and instant coffee. The island has responded. Here's the current best of it.

Bang Tao & Boat Avenue: The Brunch Capital

If you live in Bang Tao or Laguna, you're already spoiled. The Boat Avenue area (and the surrounding roads) has the highest concentration of quality café-brunch spots on the island — a reflection of the large expat population here who demand proper coffee and a decent brunch menu.

Gu Fusion Café — Boat Avenue, Bang Tao

📍 Boat Avenue, Bang Tao · ~350–650 THB/person

Long-time Bang Tao expat favourite. The açaí bowls, smashed avocado on seeded sourdough, and a decent flat white will sort you out. Gets busy on Sunday mornings — arrive before 9:30am or expect a wait. Good people-watching spot in the Boat Avenue complex.

🥞

Canvas at Laguna — Bang Tao

📍 Laguna Phuket, Bang Tao · ~600–1,000 THB/person

One of the more polished brunch settings in Phuket — inside Laguna Phuket, so you get the resort grounds and calm. The eggs Benedict are consistently excellent, and they do a proper Saturday/Sunday brunch menu with house-made pastries. A step up from the casual café scene price-wise, but worth it for a special Sunday.

🫐

The Kitchen Table — Cherng Talay

📍 Near Surin, Cherng Talay · ~400–700 THB/person

A casual, well-run neighbourhood café that the Surin and Kamala expat community has adopted. Great granola, proper poached eggs, good smoothie bowls. The garden terrace is one of the nicest outdoor brunch settings on the island. Reliably consistent — no bad days here.

Rawai & Nai Harn: Quiet Quality

The south of Phuket has its own distinct café culture — more low-key, more neighbourhood-feeling, less Instagram-chase than Bang Tao. Rawai has a strong expat community (lots of long-term residents, many families) who support a solid cluster of independent cafés and brunch spots.

🥚

Hinlay Curry House — Rawai

📍 Rawai, Phuket · ~300–550 THB/person

Primarily a curry restaurant but does an excellent weekend brunch menu. The masala scrambled eggs are genuinely special — don't overlook them because the name says curry. Strong coffee programme too. If you live in Rawai, this becomes your regular without you even deciding it will.

🌿

Nai Harn Lake Café — Nai Harn

📍 Nai Harn Lake, Phuket · ~250–500 THB/person

Relaxed setting overlooking the lake — exactly the kind of spot you come to Phuket for. Local-leaning menu with some Western items (decent eggs, good toast). The fruit smoothies are excellent and very affordable. Popular with morning runners who loop the lake. Best before 10am when it gets busier with families.

Kamala: The Relaxed Middle Ground

Kamala sits between the high-energy Bang Tao scene and the quieter south. The beach road has a growing number of well-run cafés catering to expats and tourists alike who base themselves here for its relative calm.

🏖

Kamala Bay Terrace — Kamala

📍 Kamala Beach Road · ~500–900 THB/person

Breezy terrace, sea glimpses, a menu that handles both Western brunch classics (eggs Florentine, pancakes with berries) and Asian fusion brunch items (congee, dim sum-style plates on weekends). Ideal for the lazy kind of Sunday morning that stretches into afternoon.

Phuket Town: Heritage Brunch

Phuket Town's Old Town area has seen a café renaissance in recent years. Heritage shophouses converted into beautifully designed cafés — some serious about their coffee, some more Instagram-driven, but several genuinely excellent.

🏛

Gallery Café at Old Town — Phuket Town

📍 Thalang Road, Phuket Town · ~280–550 THB/person

Restored Sino-Portuguese shophouse, local art on the walls, outstanding coffee (they take it seriously — single origin, proper technique). Brunch menu is limited but precise: eggs on sourdough, seasonal fruit plates, and the best croissant you'll find in Phuket. Worth making the trip from anywhere on the island for a Sunday morning.

Splurge Brunch: Beach Club Style

For special occasions — birthdays, visitors from home, or just a month where you've decided to live well — Phuket has a handful of resort-style brunch experiences that lean into the luxury angle.

Catch Beach Club, Surin — Phuket's most famous beach club does an elaborate Sunday brunch (around 2,500–4,000 THB/person all-in with drinks). It's glamorous and fun, the food quality is genuinely high, and the beach setting is hard to beat. Book well in advance in high season.

Bimi Restaurant at Rosewood Phuket, Patong Headland — Rosewood's all-day dining concept does a weekend brunch with Andaman views that's polished and worth the splurge for an occasion. Expect 2,000–3,500 THB per person.

Tips for Brunch in Phuket

  • Timing matters: Most popular spots fill by 10am on Sunday. Arrive at 8:30–9am for the best seats and minimal wait.
  • Wet season (May–Oct): Covered or indoor spaces matter more. Outdoor terrace brunches are lovely in dry season; plan for brief rain showers in wet season.
  • Coffee quality varies: A handful of Phuket cafés take single-origin coffee seriously (Gallery Café, several Phuket Town spots). Most mid-range cafés use commodity beans. If you're a coffee geek, ask about their beans before ordering.
  • Weekend opening only: Several of the best brunch spots only run their full brunch menu on Saturday and Sunday. Check Instagram or call ahead for weekday availability.
  • Fruit bowls are excellent everywhere: Thailand's tropical fruit is extraordinary — mangosteen, longan, rambutan, pitaya. Even a basic café will have superb fresh fruit. Always order the fruit bowl.
