For a long time, "beer in Phuket" meant choosing between Chang, Leo, or Singha — all decent lagers, but not exactly a craft drinker's paradise. That's been changing. The island now has a handful of genuine craft beer bars, a decent selection of imported bottles at the right supermarkets, and a small but enthusiastic local brewing scene distributing from Bangkok.

This guide covers where to find good craft beer in Phuket, what it costs, and how the scene has developed. Written from the perspective of someone who's tracked this down over six years rather than relying on tourist lists.

Beer Prices in Phuket 2026

  • Large Chang/Leo at local bar: ฿80–120
  • Draught beer at expat bar (happy hour): ฿100–130 per pint
  • Craft beer at dedicated craft bar: ฿160–280 per 330ml
  • Imported beer at beach club: ฿180–300 per bottle
  • Imported craft can at Villa Market: ฿120–220
  • Beer at Rimping/Makro: Chang 640ml ฿55–65, Heineken 330ml ฿60–70

Phuket's Craft Beer Scene: An Honest Assessment

Let's be realistic: Phuket is not Bangkok. The craft beer scene here is small and growing, but you won't find 40-tap taprooms or the range available at a good Bangkok craft beer bar. What you will find is a handful of excellent dedicated craft spots, increasingly good imported selections at Villa Market and Gourmet Market, and a community of like-minded drinkers who've found their local.

Thailand's brewing laws have historically been restrictive (minimum 10 million litre annual production requirement to brew commercially), which has limited local craft production. Enforcement has been inconsistent and there are now routes for smaller operations, but most "Phuket craft beer" is actually imported or comes from Bangkok-based breweries.

What has improved dramatically is the availability and variety of imported craft beers, and the number of bars specifically catering to the expat and tourist craft beer audience.

Best Craft Beer Bars in Phuket by Area

Phuket Town

Phuket Town has the most concentrated craft beer bar scene on the island, centred on the Old Town area.

Timber Hut (Yaowarat Road)

One of Phuket's longest-standing craft beer venues and still one of the best. Rotating tap selection, good bottle list, decent food. The Old Town location gives it a genuinely relaxed feel that Patong bars lack. Popular with long-term residents, younger Thais, and beer tourists.

Yaowarat Road, Phuket Town. Open from ~5pm. Craft taps from ฿160.

Bookhemian Beer Stop (Thalang Road)

The café by day becomes a beer-friendly hangout by evening. Not a dedicated craft bar but curates a thoughtful selection of Thai craft brands and some imports alongside good coffee and secondhand books. Low-key and excellent for a quiet evening drink in the Old Town.

Thalang Road, Phuket Town. Open late afternoon onwards. ฿140–200 for craft options.

Old Town Craft Bar (near Dibuk Road)

A small, relatively new craft-focused bar in the heart of the Old Town that has quickly gained a local following. Good selection of canned imports and a few rotating taps. Often has Thai indie music and a sociable atmosphere.

Near Dibuk Road. Open evenings. Generally ฿150–250 per craft pour.

Roti & Beer Bar (near Ranong Road)

A quirky hybrid — excellent roti and Thai food in the front, a respectable beer selection at the bar. Popular with locals and expats who want food and a decent craft beer without a tourist-bar atmosphere. Affordable and unpretentious.

Near Ranong Road market area. ฿100–180 for craft beers. Food from ฿60.

Rawai & Nai Harn

The Rawai expat community has generated a decent bar scene along Sai Yuan Road and the Rawai promenade area. Several long-standing expat bars stock craft options or rotating guest beers:

  • Rawai VIP Bar area: Several expat-oriented bars along the promenade and nearby streets have improved their craft selection significantly. Happy hour deals (usually 4–7pm) can bring craft beer to ฿120–140.
  • Chalong Bay Rum distillery (Chalong): Not beer, but worth visiting if you want to taste Phuket's flagship premium local spirit. Tours and tasting available. The cocktail bar is excellent.
  • Bar 360 (Nai Harn area): Rooftop views, decent craft beer list, good atmosphere. Popular with the active expat crowd post-run or post-surf.

Bang Tao & Surin

The northern coast areas around Laguna and Boat Avenue have developed better food and drink options in recent years. Catch Beach Club at Surin has a good selection of premium beers in a spectacular setting — expensive (฿200–350 for craft/imported), but the view is worth it for a sunset session. Several bars around Boat Avenue have craft options at more resident-friendly prices.

Kata & Karon

More tourist-oriented than resident-focused for bars, but a few spots have emerged with better craft selections. The Kata area has a couple of UK-style pubs that have started carrying decent craft options alongside the obligatory draught Guinness and Strongbow.

Thai Craft Beer Brands Worth Trying

A growing number of Thai craft beers are now distributed to Phuket from Bangkok-based operations:

  • Golden Coins Brewing: One of the better established Thai craft brewers. Their IPA and wheat beer are worth seeking out. Available at Villa Market and some craft bars.
  • Devanom Brewing: Distributed to some Phuket restaurants and bars. Better known in Bangkok but increasingly findable here.
  • Sandport: Another Bangkok-based craft operation with distribution improving into the Phuket market.
  • Singha 100 Pipers and Singha Craft: Singha's craft-style variants are widely available and a decent step up from standard macro lager — more accessible than the above but a reasonable introduction to Thai craft-adjacent beers.

Nightlife Context: Where Craft Beer Fits in Phuket

Phuket's nightlife is dominated by beach clubs (expensive but spectacular settings), expat bars (cheap, casual, reliable), and the Patong strip (avoid unless you love Bangla Road chaos). Craft beer drinkers tend to gravitate towards the Old Town Phuket Town area and the Rawai/Nai Harn bar scene — both more relaxed, more locally-rooted, and generally better quality across the board.

The Phuket nightlife guide covers the full landscape if you want to understand the broader scene. For the Old Town specifically, the Phuket Town food and dining guide covers the bar and café scene in more detail.
