Essential Apps for Phuket Expats 2026

15 apps that make daily life in Phuket significantly easier

Last updated: April 2026

When I moved to Rawai six years ago, I had a UK phone full of apps that were almost entirely useless in Thailand. Wrong banking apps, wrong maps settings, wrong food delivery platform. I spent the first two weeks confused about basic things I could have sorted in an hour with the right setup.

This guide covers the 15 apps I'd install if I were starting fresh in Phuket today — grouped by category, with honest notes on what actually works here and what doesn't.

Communication Apps: Non-Negotiable

💬
LINE
Most Important

Thailand's dominant messaging platform. Your landlord uses it. Your visa agent uses it. School groups are on it. Local buy/sell groups are on it. This isn't optional.

💡 Download before you arrive. Set up with your home number first, switch to Thai SIM once you have one.
🌍
Google Translate
Daily Use

Download the Thai language pack for offline use — essential when you're at Chalong market with no signal and can't read the price tag. The camera translation feature is genuinely life-changing for menus.

💡 Camera translation works in real-time — point it at Thai signs, menus, or contracts.
📷
Google Maps
Navigation

Better than Apple Maps in Phuket. Thai addresses can be confusing — Google Maps with the Thai soi names is the most reliable navigation tool. Download offline maps for the island.

💡 Search KBank Yaowarat, Phuket Immigration Chalong, or Bangkok Hospital and it'll route correctly.

Banking & Money Apps

🏦
K-PLUS (KBank)
Thai Banking

Kasikorn Bank's app — the best Thai banking app for expats. PromptPay transfers to vendors, bill payment, QR code payments at Thai shops, and the ฿800,000 retirement visa balance view at a glance.

💡 Open account at KBank Yaowarat Road branch — most flexible for foreigners including tourist visa holders.
💸
Wise
International Transfers

The cheapest way to move money from your home country to Thailand. Real mid-market exchange rate, transparent fees (typically 0.4–0.8%), and a debit card that works at Thai ATMs.

💡 Set up rate alerts so you can transfer when GBP/EUR/USD is strong against THB.
📊
Bangkok Bank Mobile
Alternative Banking

Worth having if you use Bangkok Bank for the ฿800k Non-OA visa requirement — their proof of balance letter is widely accepted. The app shows balances in THB and lets you send PromptPay.

💡 Bangkok Bank Phang Nga Road branch is the main expat branch — helpful multilingual staff.

Transport Apps

🚗
Grab
Ride Hailing

The dominant ride-hailing app in Phuket. Grab Car prices are fixed, transparent, and significantly cheaper than negotiating with tuk-tuks or taxi mafia. Essential for airport transfers.

💡 Airport to Rawai: ฿800–1,100. Airport to Patong: ฿400–600. Airport to Kata: ฿600–800.
✈️
AirAsia / Thai Airways
Domestic Flights

AirAsia connects HKT (Phuket Airport) to Bangkok Don Mueang cheaply — often ฿600–2,000 if booked 2+ weeks ahead. Use for the occasional Bangkok embassy or consulate run.

💡 BKK (Suvarnabhumi) flights are needed for some embassy visits — check which airport serves your nationality.

Food & Delivery Apps

🍜
Foodpanda
Food Delivery

The best food delivery app in Phuket — wider restaurant selection than LINE MAN, particularly good in Rawai, Kata, and Bang Tao. Delivery fees are ฿15–40 for most areas.

💡 Use Panda Pro subscription (฿149/month) for free delivery on most orders if you order 3+ times per week.
🛒
Lazada / Shopee
Online Shopping

Thailand's dominant e-commerce platforms. Lazada has faster delivery; Shopee has lower prices on many items. Both deliver to most Phuket addresses within 2–4 days. Buy everything from power adapters to furniture.

💡 Shopee is better for kitchen items, Lazada for electronics and branded goods. Both accept Thai bank cards and cash on delivery.
🏪
LINE MAN
Food + Errands

Food delivery, grocery delivery, and parcel pickup all in one app. Particularly useful in areas with fewer Foodpanda options. Runs on the LINE ecosystem you already have.

💡 LINE MAN Mart does quick grocery delivery — useful if you need something urgently and don't want to ride out in the rain.

Visa & Admin Apps

📋
Thailand Immigration
90-Day Reporting

Not a standalone app — access via immigration.go.th on your mobile browser. Use it for online 90-day reporting (saves a trip to Phuket Immigration Office on Phuket Road). File within 7 days of your due date.

💡 Set a recurring phone reminder 7 days before each 90-day deadline. The ฿2,000 late fine is unnecessary and avoidable.
📁
Adobe Scan / CamScanner
Document Scanning

Thai immigration, banks, and landlords constantly ask for document copies. A decent scanning app turns your phone into a portable scanner — essential for visa applications, lease signing, and school enrollment.

💡 Keep a "Thailand Documents" folder in Google Drive with scans of your passport, visa, work permit, lease, and insurance — accessible everywhere.

Healthcare Apps

🏥
Bangkok Hospital App
Healthcare

Book appointments at Bangkok Hospital Phuket (076-254425), view test results, and access your patient history. If you use Bangkok Hospital as your primary hospital — which most expats with good insurance do — this is worth setting up.

💡 Register in-person at Bangkok Hospital first, then activate the app. Walk-in appointments are still faster for minor issues.
💊
Teladoc / MyDoc
Telemedicine

For non-emergency medical questions — skin issues, minor infections, prescription renewals — telemedicine is increasingly viable from Phuket. Particularly useful in monsoon season when getting out is a hassle.

💡 Check if your insurer (Cigna, Pacific Cross, AXA) has a telemedicine benefit before signing up for third-party apps.

Utilities & Local Services

PEA Smart Plus
Electricity

Provincial Electricity Authority's app — view your electricity meter readings, track consumption by month, and pay bills. Useful if you're on a PEA direct meter (rather than landlord resale) and want to monitor AC costs.

💡 If your landlord charges more than ฿4.42/kWh (the highest PEA tier), they're adding an illegal surcharge. This app gives you proof.
📱
AIS myAIS / TRUE H Care
Mobile Data

Manage your Thai SIM plan, top up data, and check remaining allowances. AIS myAIS is cleaner than TRUE's app. Both let you add data bundles quickly when you're running low during a visa run or trip.

💡 AIS has the best overall Phuket coverage. TRUE Move H has competitive prices for heavy data users.

⚠️ A note on banking apps: Thai banking apps require a Thai phone number AND a Thai bank account. Sort out your KBank account at the Yaowarat Road branch first — ideally in your first week — before trying to set up K-PLUS. The app itself takes five minutes once the account is live.
💸

Move money to Thailand without bank fees

Wise offers real exchange rates and low transfer fees. Most Phuket expats save ฿3,000–8,000 per year vs bank wire transfers. Set up your account before your first transfer.

Insurance App Tip

Once you have health insurance in Phuket — Cigna, Pacific Cross, AXA, or another provider — download your insurer's app and register your policy. In an emergency, your insurer's 24/7 helpline number and direct billing hospital list are the most important pieces of information you need on your phone. Bangkok Hospital Phuket at 076-254425 takes most international insurance policies direct billing.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the most important app for new expats in Phuket?
LINE is arguably the single most important app. It's how everyone in Thailand communicates — your landlord, your school, your visa agent, your local groups. Download it before you arrive.
Do I need a Thai phone number to use K-PLUS (KBank app)?
Yes. K-PLUS requires a Thai SIM registered to a Thai bank account. Get a KBank account at the Yaowarat Road branch (most flexible for foreigners) then activate K-PLUS with your Thai number.
Does Grab work well in Phuket?
Yes, Grab works well for car rides across the island. Coverage is better in tourist areas (Patong, Kata, Bang Tao) than rural roads. For short local trips in areas like Rawai, local taxis are sometimes faster to flag.
Can I use Wise in Phuket?
Absolutely. The Wise app is one of the best tools for Phuket expats — cheap international transfers, a multi-currency card, and local ATM access. Pair it with a KBank account for optimal currency management.
Is there a good app for tracking my 90-day reporting in Phuket?
There's no official Thai immigration app, but most expats use the Thailand Immigration Bureau website for online 90-day reporting. Set a reminder 7 days before your reporting deadline — you can only file in the 15-day window before the due date.
